Renting a plot
Plot sizes and yearly rents at Bathford Allotments, how the deposit and annual tenancy work, and who can rent a plot.
Plot sizes and rates
We have several plot types available, all are approximate sizes, and vary across the site. Rates are correct as of 1 October 2026, and are reviewed annually by the Parish Council.
| Plot type | Approximate size | Rate per year |
|---|---|---|
| Full plot | 240 m² | £43.30 |
| Half plot | 120 m² | £21.65 |
| Quarter plot | 60 m² | £21.65 |
| Raised bed | — | £12 |
Quarter plots are charged at £21.65 — the same as a half plot — because of a minimum charge. Third-sized plots exist, but none are currently available.
We also have raised beds to let for those unable to take on the sizes above, or who want to dip a toe into growing their own before committing to a plot.
Find out more on our raised beds page.
Fees and payments
The Parish Clerk raises all invoices, and instructions for payment are provided on the invoice. Payment is accepted by BACS, or alternatively by cheque.
All plots are subject to a £50 deposit, which is returned at the end of the tenancy if the plot is left in a well looked after and lettable condition, subject to our site rules.
Tenancy
Our allotment plots are rented on an annual tenancy, renewed each year on 1 October. Renting a plot gives you space to grow your own produce and the responsibility to keep it cultivated, subject to our site rules.
Who can rent a plot
Whilst the site is established for the residents and parishioners of Bathford, we do welcome potential plot holders from nearby villages, and occasionally further afield. Naturally, Bathford residents take priority on the waiting list, as we are a Parish-owned site.
We try to be transparent about our waiting list — more details can be found on our waiting list page.
There must always be a named tenant, but you can feel free to share with family and indeed friends. If you let us know who is sharing your plot, we allow them first refusal of plot if you choose to leave the site, subject to our site rules. You cannot, however, sublet your plot.
How to apply
To be offered a plot you first need to join the waiting list. Instructions can be found our waiting list page
